La Keishia Childers is a native resident of Southern California. She has more than a decade of nonprofit experience garnered through direct practice with vulnerable populations, as well as organization planning and administration. La Keishia holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Philosophy, with a minor in Behavioral Science from California Baptist University. She holds a Master of Social Work degree with a concentration in Community Organization, Planning and Administration from the University of Southern California. With an overall objective of effective impact, La Keishia is dedicated to and passionate about nonprofit management and the mission of of serving and assisting individuals.
Presently, La Keishia serves as the Director of Compliance and Quality Assurance at PATH (People Assisting the Homeless). In this role she oversees PATH’s corporate compliance and quality assurance department. She is responsible for contracts management integration, risk management, accreditation/certifications, program evaluation, and continuous program improvement within the daily operations of PATH.
Additionally, La Keishia has volunteered her time and service to the Advisory Board of the Patient Navigation and Wellness Center of South Los Angeles. The mission of the organization is to provide patient navigation and wellness activities to support residents of South Los Angeles, both at risk for or impacted by cancer.
In addition to nonprofit organizations, La Keishia is also dedicated to and passionate about the experiences and support to young adult cancer patients and survivors. As a personal testimony, in 2009, La Keishia was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. After six months of chemotherapy treatments, she was declared in remission and cancer free. In 2017 and 2018, La Keishia underwent fertility preservation treatments in order to secure her ability to conceive a child in the future. Team Maggie for a Cure was instrumental in supporting her during her fertility preservation journey.
With the overwhelming need for financial support, legislative advocacy and change within the medical insurance system pertaining to cancer patients and survivors, La Keishia desires to be a part of the solution. La Keishia seeks to blend her professional skills and experience with continued advocacy, representation, and charitable fundraising within Team Maggie. La Keishia ultimately seeks to help ensure other young adult cancer patients and survivors have access to resources to fulfill desires to conceive children and establish a family.
